Wildfires Cut The Tour’s Final Stage To Just 89 Kilometres

26 Jul 2026

The Tour de France finale has been reduced from 133 to 89 kilometres because security forces originally assigned to the race are needed in areas affected by wildfires. The start from Thoiry has been removed and the racing will take place entirely in Paris.

The three planned passages over Montmartre remain unchanged, while two laps of the Champs-Élysées have been added. The shortened route therefore preserves the main sporting attraction of a finale that will be more than a ceremonial ride for Tadej Pogačar.
