From Tour Revelation To World Championship Ambition: Seixas Maps Out His Autumn

Paul Seixas will take two weeks away from structured training before beginning the final part of a remarkable 2026 season. The 19-year-old French rider has just finished fourth overall in his first Tour de France, a result that has strengthened his status as one of the most exciting young talents in professional cycling.

The immediate priority for Seixas and Decathlon CMA CGM is recovery. His Tour debut exposed him to three weeks of high-speed racing, mountain stages, pressure and constant attention on a scale he had never previously experienced. The team therefore intends to give him a genuine break before returning to a carefully controlled training programme.

Once that rest period is over, Seixas will prepare for an autumn centred on the major one-day races. His return to competition is scheduled for the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec on September 11, followed by the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal two days later. Both Canadian WorldTour events should provide an ideal test of his form on demanding circuits.

Seixas is then expected to remain in Canada with the World Championships as his main objective, provided he is selected by the French national team. The elite road race will take place in Montreal on September 27, giving him another opportunity to measure himself against the strongest Classics specialists in the world.

His season is due to end on October 10 at Il Lombardia. Seixas already finished seventh in the Italian Monument in 2025, and his climbing ability and explosiveness make the race an obvious target. It will also offer a final indication of how well he has absorbed the physical demands of his first Tour.

La Vuelta a España is not included in his plans. Rather than adding another three-week race, his team has chosen a programme combining recovery, training and selected one-day events. The objective is to continue his development without allowing the excitement generated by his Tour performance to dictate an excessive schedule.

Seixas has already won the Tour of the Basque Country and La Flèche Wallonne this season, while also producing major results in the Ardennes and on the white roads of Tuscany. His fourth place in Paris has raised expectations even further, but the coming months will be as much about managing his future as chasing immediate victories.
