Gall Conquers El Escudo And Takes Control Of The Vuelta A Burgos

Felix Gall ended a three-year wait for victory with an impressive performance on the Alto del Escudo. The Austrian attacked repeatedly on the final climb, won the third stage of the 2026 Vuelta a Burgos and took the leader's jersey from Oscar Onley.

The stage was raced through thick fog before the decisive ascent, a seven-kilometre climb averaging 9% and containing ramps of up to 15%. Pavel Sivakov spent much of the day as the virtual leader after joining the breakaway, forcing INEOS, Lidl-Trek, Movistar and Decathlon to organise the chase.

Pablo Torres attacked after the escapees were caught, but Gall soon increased the pressure. Onley initially followed the Austrian before being dropped by another acceleration. Gall reached the finish alone, 11 seconds ahead of Giulio Ciccone, Giulio Pellizzari and Onley.

Enric Mas finished fifth, 22 seconds behind the winner, and moved up to fourth overall. Gall now leads Ciccone by six seconds and Onley by eight, while Mas is 27 seconds back. The small gaps leave the race open ahead of the final showdown at Lagunas de Neila.
