Vollering Ignites The Tour In Beaujolais And Moves Within 12 Seconds Of Yellow

Demi Vollering claimed her first victory of the 2026 Tour de France Femmes after an explosive fifth stage through the Beaujolais hills. The Dutch rider beat yellow jersey Marlen Reusser and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney in Belleville-en-Beaujolais, reducing her deficit in the general classification to just 12 seconds.

The 140-kilometre stage from Mâcon packed eight classified climbs and around 2,900 metres of elevation into a relentlessly rolling route. A breakaway of more than 20 riders formed, but Movistar kept it within reach while the sprinters gradually disappeared from contention.

FDJ United-SUEZ hardened the race on the Col de Durbize, where Vollering attacked with roughly 30 kilometres remaining. Only Reusser and Niewiadoma-Phinney could stay with her. The three favourites rode clear after Mont Brouilly and contested the victory in a fast, tactical finale.

Niewiadoma-Phinney tried to surprise her rivals with an early acceleration, but Reusser and Vollering closed the gap. Vollering then timed her sprint perfectly to take the stage, while Reusser retained the yellow jersey. With the hardest mountain stages still ahead, the Tour has become a direct battle between a leader who refuses to crack and a challenger now close enough to strike.
