Roglič Misses The Vuelta A Burgos After Training Collision With A Car
Primož Roglič has suffered a major disruption to his preparation for the Vuelta a España after being struck by a car during a training ride. The Slovenian revealed the incident himself and published an image showing a large bruise on the back of his right thigh.
No fracture or serious structural injury has been reported, but the consequences have already forced him to change his schedule. Roglič withdrew from both the Clásica San Sebastián and the Vuelta a Burgos, the two races that were supposed to provide his final competitive preparation before the Spanish Grand Tour.
The timing makes the setback particularly significant. The Vuelta begins in Monaco on August 22, leaving less than a month between the collision and the opening time trial. Instead of testing his condition in competition, the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe leader must now recover and rebuild his form through training.
The Vuelta has been Roglič's central objective throughout 2026. He chose not to target the Giro d'Italia or Tour de France and had completed only 28 race days before the incident. At 36, he is attempting to win the Spanish race for a fifth time and move ahead of Roberto Heras as the outright record holder.
Roglič has indicated that his focus remains firmly on the Vuelta and that he hopes the situation will improve. For now, his participation has not been ruled out, but the loss of San Sebastián and Burgos removes two important tests and adds uncertainty to one of the most anticipated battles of the season.
