Vollering Faces A Crucial Medical Check After Her Tour Crash

Demi Vollering's challenge at the Tour de France Femmes has gained an unexpected concern before the decisive Dijon time trial. The FDJ United-SUEZ leader crashed only 13 kilometres into stage three while the peloton was climbing towards the Col de la Faucille.

Vollering went down alongside Puck Pieterse and world champion Magdeleine Vallieres. She quickly returned to her bike and avoided losing contact with the general-classification contenders. Later in the stage, she was even able to attack on the final hills, an encouraging sign after the incident.

Nevertheless, the Dutch rider appeared to be walking carefully after completing her post-stage warm-down on the time trial bike. Her team confirmed that she would be examined by the physiotherapist and medical staff before a final assessment of her condition. No serious injury had been reported early on Tuesday, but FDJ had not yet provided a definitive update.

The timing is especially delicate. Stage four is a 21-kilometre individual time trial from Gevrey-Chambertin to Dijon, where Vollering hoped to gain time on several of her rivals. She starts the day third overall, 2:06 behind surprise leader Sigrid Haugset and only four seconds behind Kim Le Court-Pienaar.

Vollering's performance against the clock will now reveal both her physical condition and her real position in the fight for yellow. The Tour remains long and the Mont Ventoux finish is still ahead, but any discomfort after the crash could complicate one of the most important days of her race.
