Landa Comes Home And Rejoins Euskaltel After Thirteen Years

Mikel Landa will return to Euskaltel-Euskadi in 2027, bringing one of the most recognisable Basque riders of his generation back to the team where his top-level career began. The agreement covers the next two seasons and will take effect after his current contract with Soudal Quick-Step ends.

The signing carries a strong emotional meaning. Landa developed within the Fundación Euskadi structure, raced for Orbea in 2009 and 2010 and represented Euskaltel-Euskadi from 2011 to 2013. His departure coincided with the disappearance of the former WorldTour project, and his return comes thirteen years later to a rebuilt team with the same distinctive orange identity.

During that time, the Basque climber has competed for Astana, Sky, Movistar, Bahrain Victorious and Soudal Quick-Step. His career includes two Giro d'Italia podiums, two fourth places at the Tour de France and a fifth place at the Vuelta a España, as well as stage victories in major races.

For Euskaltel-Euskadi, the move is about more than adding a proven climber. Landa will bring experience, international visibility and leadership to a squad that continues to pursue invitations to cycling's biggest events. His presence could also be valuable for the development of the team's younger Basque riders.

The transfer does not mean Landa's time at Soudal Quick-Step is already over. He remains under contract through the end of 2026 and still has objectives to complete with his current team. From next season, however, the orange jersey will once again be worn by a rider whose attacking style created the idea of “Landismo” and earned him a loyal following far beyond the Basque Country.
