Decathlon Expands Into Women’s Cycling With A New Team For 2027

Decathlon CMA CGM will create a women’s professional team for the 2027 season, extending one of the fastest-growing structures in men’s cycling into the women’s peloton. The new squad will begin with 12 riders and compete as a UCI Women’s ProTeam, the second international level.

The project will form part of the organisation’s NewGen development programme, which already includes junior and continental teams. Former professional Guillaume Bonnafond will oversee the structure, whose initial focus will be identifying and developing young riders from road cycling, cyclocross and mountain biking.

The women’s team will share performance knowledge and resources with the men’s WorldTour operation. That support should include areas such as coaching, sports science, equipment and rider development, giving the new squad an established technical foundation from its first season.

No riders have yet been announced. This leaves the composition of the inaugural roster as one of the main questions surrounding the project, particularly at a time when several teams are strengthening their line-ups and competition for emerging talent is increasing.

Decathlon’s stated ambition is not to remain permanently in the second division. The organisation intends to build a sustainable team capable of progressing to the Women’s WorldTour in the coming years. Its arrival will add another major commercial and sporting project to a women’s peloton that continues to grow in depth, investment and international visibility.
