Van der Poel wins after extraordinary 174km solo raid

Mathieu van der Poel produced one of the longest solo victories in modern professional cycling on the final stage of the Tour de Luxembourg. He attacked only three kilometres into the 177-kilometre route and remained alone at the front for the remaining 174, over more than 3,000 metres of climbing.

The Dutchman built a lead of more than five minutes and still finished 1:04 ahead of Mikkel Honoré, with Pepijn Reinderink third at 1:09. The astonishing ride delivered Van der Poel his second stage victory of the race and a powerful final test before the World Championship road race in Montreal.
