Reusser powers to second straight world time trial crown

Marlen Reusser successfully defended her elite time trial title at the UCI Road World Championships, producing a perfectly paced second half on the 39.2-kilometre course in Montreal. On her 35th birthday, the Swiss rider finished in 50:24.44 and caught Demi Vollering, who had started ahead of her.

Zoe Bäckstedt led Reusser at the first two checkpoints on her elite debut, but the defending champion reversed the deficit in the closing kilometres to win by 40 seconds. Bäckstedt took silver and Franziska Koch claimed bronze, six seconds further back, while Vollering finished eighth.
