Roglič to lead Slovenia at the Worlds without Pogačar

14 Sep 2026

Primož Roglič will lead Slovenia in the elite men's road race at the Montréal World Championships following Tadej Pogačar's withdrawal. The four-time Vuelta winner arrives from finishing second overall in Spain and will take responsibility on a hilly circuit considered compatible with his characteristics.

Jan Tratnik, Matej Mohorič, Luka Mezgec, Matevž Govekar, Gal Glivar and Tilen Finkšt are included in the men's team. Vuelta stage winner Jakob Omrzel is expected to complete the eight-rider selection if final permission is granted. Tratnik will also contest the individual time trial.

Slovenia accepts that it moves behind Belgium and France in the hierarchy of favourites without Pogačar, but believes the reduced pressure can become an advantage. Roglič's experience, Mohorič's ability in one-day races and several tactical options give the team alternatives on the repeated climbs of Montréal. Urška Žigart and Nika Bobnar will represent Slovenia in the women's events.
