Ayuso answers Québec crash with Montréal attack
Juan Ayuso responded to his heavy crash at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec by attacking almost 80 kilometres from the finish in Montréal. Despite discomfort in his back and knee, the Lidl-Trek rider spent several kilometres at the front with Maximilian Schachmann before the favourites' battle brought him back.
The performance offered reassurance two weeks before the World Championships. Ayuso was able to test himself on the same roads and complete a demanding 214.4-kilometre race, although his recovery will remain important before he leads Spain alongside Enric Mas.
