Mikel Landa revives Landismo on Collado del Alguacil

Mikel Landa won stage 20 of La Vuelta 2026 after finishing off the breakaway on the Collado del Alguacil. The Soudal Quick-Step rider completed the 187 kilometres from La Calahorra in 4:58:01, beating Tobias Halland Johannessen by 47 seconds and Ramses Debruyne by 1:27. Pau Miquel finished fourth at 3:00 and Urko Berrade fifth at 4:12.

Landa entered the decisive part of the stage at the front with Johannessen and Debruyne after a demanding day with 4,890 metres of climbing. He used his greater freshness on the final ascent, attacked on the 8.3-kilometre climb averaging 9.8% and left the Norwegian behind to reach the summit alone.

The victory ends an 11-year wait for another La Vuelta stage win after Landa's success in Andorra in 2015. At 36, he celebrated one of the most emotional victories of his career and gave Spanish cycling a second reason to celebrate on the day Enric Mas effectively secured the overall title.
