Ayuso sparks concern with crash metres from the line

Juan Ayuso suffered a heavy crash around 50 metres from the finish of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. A chain reaction of swerves in the group sprint sent the Lidl-Trek rider to the ground. He was able to stand but could not remount, crossing the line on foot while pushing his bicycle and showing clear discomfort.

Ayuso was classified 28th, 2:24 behind winner Remco Evenepoel. The incident occurred while the group was sprinting for the minor placings and no penalties were issued. Available reports have not confirmed a fracture or a specific injury, so the extent of the damage remains uncertain.

The crash comes two weeks before the elite road race at the World Championships in Montréal, where Ayuso is expected to lead Spain alongside Enric Mas. He was also scheduled to race Sunday's Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, but his participation will depend on how he recovers and any medical assessment from Lidl-Trek.
