Andrea Bagioli leaves Lidl-Trek for XDS Astana

01 Sep 2026

Andrea Bagioli will race for XDS Astana in the 2027 and 2028 seasons. The 27-year-old Italian will leave Lidl-Trek at the end of the year and join a Kazakh squad continuing to add riders capable of winning one-day races and selective hilly stages.

Bagioli is particularly effective on rolling courses and explosive finishes. He can survive medium-length climbs and retain a fast acceleration from a reduced group, making him a useful option in the Ardennes-style classics, Italian autumn races and demanding stages of week-long tours.

His leading results include victory at Gran Piemonte in 2023 and second place at Il Lombardia later that year. That Monument podium confirmed his ability to compete with the world's best over long and difficult one-day courses.

The Italian began his professional career with Soudal Quick-Step before joining Lidl-Trek in 2024. He often worked for other leaders but also received opportunities in the Italian classics and finishes suited to punchy riders. XDS Astana is expected to offer him a more prominent role.

Bagioli can lead the team in selected one-day races or act as a second card in events where Astana starts with several contenders. His two-year signing forms part of an extensive rebuild designed to spread wins and ranking points across the entire season and reduce dependence on a small group of leaders.
